Concordia sul Secchia (MO) oratory

Following the earthquakes of 20th and 29th May 2012, the damaged building needed to be rehabilitated for public use. With FMeA co-ordination, the first phase was to make the building compliant with public safety board regulations to then begin with restoration work in fully approved working conditions. The cribbing of openings, the strengthening of facade walling to prevent overturning and the perforation of the wooden roofing beam structure were all carried out.

The roof was restored having been identified as a key point to the building’s overall recovery. This was rebuilt in wood able to bear final loads with boomerang roofing beams substituting the pre-existing partition wall supporting the roof structure. The new structure copied the previous collapsed one in terms of shape, volume and tilt.  .

The roof structure is supported by perimeter masonry and the existing spine wall, which, where damaged, was reinforced by replacement and new mortar grouting. Along the drain piping, a reinforced brick curb was positioned through the insertion of metal trellis, connected by cast iron bars.
