Tirano (SO) railway station

Tirano (SO) railway station

Previous Next

The station was built in the 1920s in the art deco style.

The architectural project foresaw the redefinition of the functional spaces meaning the normal every day running of the station could be perfectly fused with the function of touristic promotion. From an architectural point of view, the project had the following goals:

- organizing the functional requirements within an architectural framework having a specific visual identity;

- maintaining a high level of convertibility to avoid future damage to the structure and its finishing;

- reaching the highest level possible of environmental compatibility through working methodology and materials chosen.

Following stratigraphic analysis, it was decided to eliminate current artificial paintwork and recover the original decoration in the tourist and foyer areas of the station.

The tourist office was completely redesigned using a self-supporting, structure in pinewood beams with furniture in the same and for the flooring, local serpentine stone from Valmalenco.

The foyer was also re-modelled in terms of flooring, wooden false ceiling and a change in finishing.

The extension of the foyer will connect it directly with the tourist office.
