Work begins on the Bassano bridge

After an administrative dispute lasting over a year, the restoration and consolidation works on the Ponte degli Alpini in Bassano del Grappa have finally been handed over to the executing contractor. The bridge is renowned in architecture, having been designed in 1567 by Andrea Palladio, who included it in his treatise I quattro libri dell’architettura, and is historically significant for its close association with World War I, when Bassano served as the immediate rear of the Alpine front.

FOPPOLI MORETTA e ASSOCIATI srl, commissioned by the Municipality of Bassano, had already carried out diagnostic investigations in 2014, providing the University of Padua with the necessary data to prepare the structural consolidation project. In 2015, the firm prepared the Safety and Coordination Plan, and in 2016 it monitored significant settlements of the bridge piers, coordinating both urgent interventions to ensure the structure’s safety and specific works such as archaeological excavations and the clearance of unexploded ordnance.

With the current handover, the works—scheduled to last 850 days—have now commenced, with FMeA acting as Safety Coordinator during the execution phase.
