Built in the second quarter of the 17th century, the palace was acquired by the public administration in 1987 in order to promptly initiate the restoration of the park and the architectural structures. Today, the palace hosts exhibitions, cultural events, and guided tours, while the Castle Hall, the specific focus of the intervention, houses valuable frescoes depicting the Sforza Castle and the Borromeo family’s estates on Lake Maggiore.

Visual inspections were carried out on the primary and secondary timber elements of the hall’s roof structure and the overlying roof, in accordance with the criteria and procedures set out in the UNI 11119 standard. These were complemented by detailed instrumental investigations using a resistograph in the most critical areas not accessible to visual inspection. All activities were conducted in compliance with the requirements of the competent Heritage Authority.

The investigations carried out will support the subsequent structural assessment, which is preliminary to the strengthening intervention. The design and site supervision of the works are carried out by Foppoli Moretta e Associati.
