SURVEY AND INSPECTION AT THE CASTLE OF EZZELINI IN BASSANO DEL GRAPPA

On behalf of the Municipality of Bassano del Grappa, Foppoli Moretta e Associati has launched a campaign of exploratory studies for the design of the conservation works and enhancement of the entrance to the Castle and the Ser Ivano Tower.
The castle of the Ezzelini di Bassano is a part of the historical memory that survived the damnatio memoriae of the terrible Ezzelino III da Romano. Exceptional figure of the first half of the thirteenth century, vicar of the emperor Frederick II, was the first lord to try to extend his domains to much of northern Italy, conquering a territory that went from Treviso to Verona, in Trento, in Brescia, thus bringing together a territorial entity strategically wedged between the papacy and the empire. Ezzelino, against whom a crusade was even banned, died while he headed with his army on Milan, due to the wounds sustained in battle along the river Adda. Dante met him in hell and even Oscar Wilde remembered him in the portrait of Dorian Gray. Even Verdi felt the suggestion of the castle of Bassano, where he set his first opera.
Our company has been entrusted by the municipality of Bassano del Grappa with the project for the conservation and enhancement of the south-eastern sector of the castle, including the access door, the guard corps and the tower called Ser Ivano. For this we started our activities last week with the accurate laser-scanner relief of the artifact, associated with the photogrammetric relief carried out by drone, obtaining very detailed images (brick by brick) of the walls. The analysis was then deepened through close inspection of the external facades of the towers, carried out using rope access techniques.
It is satisfying to be called again to work in Bassano, after the many works carried out by us in the past 10 years on the bridge of the Alpini, on the bridge of the Victory and on the Temple Ossario.
