Redevelopment of Sernio square (SO)

The Gospel concert on 9 December 2023 provided the opportunity to present and hand over the new square in front of Sernio’s town hall to the community.
The intervention involved removing the small football pitch to make way for the new square, designed as a stepped semicircle with stone walls, evoking the terraced landscapes typical of the Valtellina region.
The redevelopment of the square also redefined pedestrian connections, improving accessibility to the parish church of SS. Cosma and Damiano and to the streets of the town centre.
Furthermore, the lower part of the square was enhanced as a gathering space, creating a link between the Homodei Tower, the town hall, the adjacent hostel, and the church.
The upper part of the square was transformed into a city park, providing a green space within the historic centre.
The project, strongly promoted and supported by the Municipal Administration, was funded through a call by the Lombardy Region aimed at the redevelopment and cultural-tourism enhancement of historic villages.
