New equipment for surveys – LiDAR scanner

To carry out surveys of small spaces and objects with greater precision and at very high speed, Foppoli Moretta e Associati has acquired a high-performance tablet that allows the capture of point clouds using LiDAR technology.

The LiDAR scanner, integrated into the tablet, measures the time light takes to reach an object and return, creating a depth map of the surrounding space. Once the data acquisition is complete, the scan is processed within a few minutes using dedicated applications, generating a point cloud that can be exported in formats compatible with 3D modeling and BIM software.

This tool proves extremely useful for capturing environments and objects with high precision, even on active construction sites. The photographs and videos show initial tests conducted at the Church of San Romerio in Brusio, Switzerland. The survey of the altar was carried out to preserve a record of its condition over time, as the wooden panels covering it will be reinstated at the end of the restoration work. The capabilities of the instrument are further shown by the level of detail it captured, accurately recording the cross engraved on the altar’s plastered front panel.
