Mission in New Zealand on behalf of the IAEA
23 October 2019
Dario Foppoli successfully completed a highly successful mission, having been invited by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) to attend, as a UN expert, the ‘Workshop on the Application of NDT for Civil Engineering Structures,’ which was held in Wellington, New Zealand, during the second week of October.”
The meeting, coordinated by New Zealand, aimed to develop the specifications and documentation necessary for the training of personnel responsible for carrying out Non-Destructive Testing to monitor structures and prevent natural disasters in the region (Asia and the Pacific).
The event provided a valuable opportunity for exchange between experts (alongside Foppoli, a representative from Russia, and experts from Argentina and Brazil) and representatives from 15 Asian countries, including Pakistan, India, Malaysia, China, and Japan.
The Italian experience—both in terms of case studies on diagnostic campaigns and regarding personnel certification according to ISO 9712—was particularly appreciated, so much so that it was decided to explore these topics further at a follow-up meeting, scheduled to take place in Milan in February 2020.
