FMeA makes its debut in Argentina

The AIPnD (Italian Association for Non-Destructive Testing, Monitoring and Diagnostics), of which FOPPOLI MORETTA e ASSOCIATI srl has been a member since 2010, is a non-profit scientific, cultural, and professional organization. It is among the world’s leading associations in its field, counting members across Italy from approximately 1,000 institutions, universities, and companies. Founded in 1979, it is primarily dedicated to the advancement of scientific and technical knowledge, as well as the technological development of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), through information sharing, education, and the promotion of professional activities in the sector.

In the specific field of cultural and environmental heritage, the Association has for 25 years been promoting the organization, almost biennially, of the “International Conference on Non-Destructive Investigations and Microanalysis for the Diagnostics and Conservation of Cultural and Environmental Heritage (ART)”, whose most recent edition (Art’14) was held in Madrid. The next edition (Art’17) will take place this coming November in Turin. Within the context of international contacts aimed at organizing the conference, AIPnD was invited by its Argentine counterpart, AAENDE (Asociación Argentina de Ensayos No Destructivos y Estructurales), to participate in the “Jornada de END en Patrimonio Cultural”, held at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de la Ciudad de Neuquén, Argentina, on October 6.

To present best practices in the field of Non-Destructive Testing in Italy, specifically regarding the seismic vulnerability of historic heritage, AIPnD asked Dario Foppoli to prepare a report on case studies drawn from FMeA’s work on significant Italian monuments of international relevance. The occasion highlighted FMeA’s analyses in Venice (La Fenice), Rome (Palazzo Montecitorio), Florence (Giotto’s Campanile), and during the most recent earthquakes in L’Aquila and Emilia. It also provided an opportunity to discuss diagnostics aimed at seismic prevention, a topic that is particularly relevant in Italy, where the country is positioned among the world leaders in research in this field.

The report, translated into Spanish, was presented during the “Jornada” by AIPnD Vice-President Daniele Bisi under the title: “El conocimiento del comportamiento sísmico del patrimonio monumental italiano a través de Ensayos No Destructivos”, and was published in the conference proceedings. The Italian version will also be published in the upcoming issue of “Il Giornale delle Prove non Distruttive.”
