Diagnostic investigations on metal tie rods and timber frameworks of the Torre di San Niccolò in Firenze

Foppoli Moretta e Associati, on behalf of and in collaboration with the Municipality of Firenze, has recently carried out a diagnostic investigation campaign on the structural elements of the Torre di San Niccolò, located in Piazza Giuseppe Poggi in the Oltrarno district.
The activities carried out focused on assessing the stress state of the iron tie rods through vibration analysis, visually inspecting the wooden structures of the two floors and the roof, and investigating areas of degradation identified during the survey by means of specific instrumental tests, including moisture measurements and Resistograph tests.
On-site operations were conducted using an elevated work platform at a height of approximately 45 meters above ground. The processing, analysis, and evaluation of the collected data are currently underway.
