CONSERVATION AND ENHANCEMENT OF THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE IN THE "PERGUL" AREA

Since 2016, the company Foppoli Moretta e Associati has carried out, on behalf of the Municipality of Sernio, several services with the aim of preserving and enhancing the cultural landscape in the "Pergul" area, including the construction of a new path and the maintenance of several dry stone products including Baitelli, murache, terraces and mule tracks.
The area under intervention is called "del Pergul", it is located in the commune of Sernio on slopes of Mount Masuccio at an altitude between the Path of the Sun and the river greto Adda, for a total difference in altitude of 300 m and has an overall surface area of about 80 ha.
The overall project focuses on the restoration and enhancement of the terraced side, with particular attention to the recovery of dry stone artefacts, including agricultural buildings, Baitelli, walls and paving stones that constitute the pavement of the historic road (mule tracks). The activities also include the consolidation and restoration of terraces, in particular of the Homodei vineyards, and the execution of interventions aimed at improving accessibility and usability of the surrounding area. These interventions include the completion of the agro-silvo-pastoral road Pergul-Baruffini, the maintenance of trails, the construction of a slow road, the installation of signage and other actions to ensure the use of the entire area.

Subsequently to the phases reported in the table, a valorization intervention was undertaken specifically relating to the path that connects the “Sentiero del Sole” (Baruffini-Rogorbello) and the “Sentiero Valtellina” (which runs along the valley floor from Colico to Bormio).
