AIPND CULTURAL HERITAGE WORKSHOP IN FLORENCE

The workshop, organized jointly with the Opificio delle Pietre Dure and the University of Florence, aimed to take stock of good practices in the field of non-destructive testing with reference to the conservation of artistic heritage. The topics covered were various, from the use of radar (GPR), thermography and sonic/ultrasonic surveys for the analysis of wall supports and painting equipment, structural characterization for the assessment of the seismic vulnerability of buildings of cultural interest, the use of non-destructive tests for the constitutive and structural investigation of movable assets such as sculptures and paintings.

This workshop provided an opportunity for professionals and experts in the field to exchange views, with a view to providing information on the latest technologies in the field of non-destructive testing,  which are increasingly becoming an essential approach not only for the conservation but also for the valorization of cultural heritage. The three organizing bodies are deeply convinced of this and of the fact that what has been achieved in this field in Italy, thanks also to a habit of interdisciplinary comparison, is placed at levels of absolute excellence.

Engineer Foppoli, Coordinator of the Study Commission «Cultural Heritage» of the scientific council of AIPnD, chaired the talks and presented the activity carried out by the association in the last 8 years in the international context.
