Old Chimney of "La Baia" residential block in Cremia (CO)
Structural diagnostics were carried out to obtain an LC3 level of knowledge as specified in the Italian Seismic Code
To reach this level, geometrical surveys were carried out on the structure and analysis of the mechanical properties of the materials.
Structural geometry was determined through external surface and internal tubing laser scanner to create a model and analyze possible structural deformation. The following analysis allowed the integration of this information:
- sub/vertical continuous coring for foundation depth with endoscopic video inspection of boring;
- horizontal continuous coring to determine masonry stratigraphy thickness with endoscopic video inspection of coring;
Local stress testing was carried out through flat jacks while deformation characteristics were analysed through parallel flat jacks
The 3D survey showed the tip of the building to be out of axis by 17.8cm while the flat jack testing carried out at ground level showed a significant asymmetry of loads at the base. The results were used in the implementation of a 3D structural Finite Element Model allowing the static and seismic assessment to be carried out.
