Parella castle - TORINO
Diagnosis was to determine masonry stress through flat jack testing and deformation in masonry structures and the estimation of their compression strength through parallel flat jacks;
Castle walls were shown to be made partly of stone and partly of a mix of stone and brick. It is important to point out that some tests were carried out to characterize the thin vaults on the ground floor. Such structures are made of brick with a thickness of 120mm, thus, it was necessary to use special small rectangular flat jacks with a dimension of 120x240x5mm.
