S. Maria Assunta church in Fabbrico (RE)

S. Maria Assunta church in Fabbrico (RE)

Previous Next

The late 17th century church is made up of a main east-west located building with east facing facade with symmetrical sections next to the presbytery, the south facing structure housing the sacristy.

The project would repair damage caused by the earthquake of 20th and 29th May 2012 and also improve the structural behaviour of the building.

Structural diagnosis: the mechanical and geometrical characteristics of elevated masonry were analyzed through single and double flat jacks, sonic testing, tomographic testing and horizontal coring.

Project: to draw up the structural plan, possible damage phenomenon was analyzed in particular connection with those caused by the earthquake. Structural damage was also analyzed and correlated to how damage occurred considering the intensity relationship factor.

Structural intervention was carried out to repair damage. This included the chaining of the walls of the lateral chapels, the use of a metal frame to firmly anchor the main façade and the re-tensioning of tie rods around the perimeter.

Cracking was repaired and reinforcement carried out on connections and grouting and the sacristy vaults and apse also being returned to their former state through extrados FRCM reinforcements.

The sacristy masonry covering will be replaced with wood and the wooden roofing beams will be reinforced through structural screed.
