S. Biagio church in S. Marino di Carpi (MO)
The construction of this church dates back to the 11th century while the current set up with a single nave came about in the 18th century. The planning foresees the reparation of damages caused by the earthquake of 20th and 29th May 2012.
Structural diagnosis: analysis was carried out to determine mechanical and geometrical elevated masonry characteristics through single and double flat head jack testing.
Project: services carried out foresee the repair of earthquake damage and the structural improvement of the building against future seismic activity.
A rigid structure at the level of the truss will be installed through metallic engineering tie rods, the insertion of a metal chain framework on the main facade, the lateral facade and lateral chapels and the framing of the bell-tower.
Masonry reinforcement will be carried out through grouting and full re-grouting of mortar joints, cracking repair through mortar replacement and localized plating with carbon fibre FRCM. The apse vault will be reinforced with an extrados diaphragm to prevent lateral masonry movement. The archway will be reinforced with lateral tie rods and the positioning of masonry connected metal plates at the level of the tympanum controlling risk of collapse through the opening of the extrados joint.
