Castelseprio (VA) archeological park – seismic hazard analysis
Seismic risk for the San Giovanni monastery in Castelseprio archaeological park was evaluated at level LV1 with a level LV2 integration for possible vulnerable macro-elements. A linear analysis was also carried out on the new wooden structure on the building’s south face.
The building is used mainly as a museum and exhibition space and that leads to its classification as a type 2 - 3rd class of use building (buildings with significant public presence, schools, theatres, museums etc.) in compliance with the Italian Seismic Code. It is a listed building.
Evaluation entailed four phases:
- LV1 level seismic risk factor evaluation – carried out digitally using the SIVARS standard computer application for seismic risk evaluation of public heritage buildings.
- LV1 level seismic risk factor evaluation – carried out with simplified mechanical modelling as per the Italian Seismic Guidelines for Heritage Buildings;
- LV2 level seismic risk factor evaluation as per the Italian Seismic Code;
- linear analysis of the new wooden structure on the building’s south face for seismic risk.
