S.Giacomo dell’Orio "insula" in Venice
During maintenance and cleaning of Venice’s “rio” canal networks, undertaken by the company Insula s.p..a, a holding of Venice city council, it was necessary to also carry out structural analysis of buildings facing the canals and their structural level of risk.
The operation carried out in the S.Giacomo dell’Orio "insula" foresaw excavation of mud, static bank, foundation and bridge restoration, repair and restoration of underground sanitary tubing. All buildings facing the canals were also analyzed for eventual structural weakness. Overall, the surrounding canals named S. Zan Degolà, S. Giovanni, del Megio, S. Giacomo dell’Orio and Ca’ Tron were involved.
All masonry facing onto the canals was inspected to verify any type of degradation or irregularity thus making it possible to evaluate possible risk factors concerning the setting up of the restoration site in the canal. All data collected, with full diagnosis, was compiled onto the standard forms for such work.
