Monitoring during works

The execution of works close to buildings often causes disputes related to the occurrence of deformation or cracking phenomena on structures close to the working site. These phenomena can be due to static causes (for example land subsidence or demolition of buttresses) or dynamic causes (for example vibrations). The latter are often the main reason of concern because a marked sensitivity of the people to the physiological perception of the vibrations has been experimentally demonstrated. In both cases, the execution of the works can be monitored through systems that can be installed in order to protect the workers in the construction site and to ensure the proper carrying out of the operations.

In the case of dynamic systems, it is possible to use seismometers that can be calibrated on the basis of the environmental data and on the basis of the velocity and vibration levels provided by the standards. These instruments can be connected with warning systems that check the overcoming of the standard limits in real time.
