inspection and damage report of buildings in Macerata province damaged by earthquake
Engineer Alessandro Armanasco, operative partner of FOPPOLI MORETTA e ASSOCIATI is a qualified seismic damage consultant and carried out his analysis in October 2016 in Gualdo near Macerata. All buildings listed as earthquake affected were inspected and an AEDES standard form compiled; this instrument with visual analysis, data collection and description of damage allows for the habitability assessment.
60 units were analyzed with the following typology groups being listed:
- stone masonry rural buildings suffered the greatest damage due to the high level of vulnerability of such masonry. Stone used is generally soft (lime stone), clay/earthen formula and without binding elements. The interior is generally a combination of materials not suitable for the structural purpose;
- similar stone buildings that have to be restored often feature widespread damage due to the unsuitable materials used in seismically vulnerable areas, for example heavy brick and cement roofing;
- buildings in mixed masonry/reinforced concrete from the 1970s/80s featuring heavy damage to the internal partition structure.
