“Sociale” theatre in Sondrio - structure
The project foresaw the restoration of the 730 capacity theatre including its updating to fully comply with current seismic legislation. A new stage with higher scenic capacity was created along with a new foyer, dressing rooms, service areas and a fully restored facade. Special attention was paid to creating the best possible acoustic quality.
All existing structures were fully updated for seismic resistance according to the Italian Seismic Code through the reinforcement of masonry, beams and attics, the demolition and reconstruction of some attic spaces and the creation of extra volume through the super elevation of the covering floor.
The modelling of the project allowed the structure’s weaknesses to be identified. Following this, reinforcement strategies were implemented. The following specific actions were planned:
masonry foundation reinforcement in the underground floor,
reinforcement of some masonry elements on the ground floor through FRCM materials
creation of a scenic portal acting as a seismic frame
execution of all necessary connections between support and vertical structures.
The structure of the roof was designed with wooden trusses which can withstand the horizontal forces of the existing structure without adding to the loads.
