Bellaguarda castle in Tovo (SO) - restoration
The medieval castle had been left in ruins and completely abandoned for over a century.
Its location at around 700 m above sea level and entirely surrounded by forest which had encroached over the structure itself, created substantial logistic problems.
Full analysis was carried out to be able to draw up a plan. Laser scanner survey was matched with archaeological checks, stratigraphic analysis and diagnostic monitoring.
The site was valorised step by step allowing the municipality to manage resources available in the best way possible.
Currently the first three phases of the planning have been completed meaning the complete restoration of the castle and its surroundings. Some covered areas have been recovered, such as the guard house where work was carried out using techniques and materials highly compatible with their surroundings (glass and wood).
